Many of us received career advice early in our professional lives that sounded wise at the time.
Advice like:
• “Just work hard and your work will speak for itself.”
• “Keep your head down and stay out of politics.”
• “If you perform well, recognition will follow.”
For some professionals that advice worked.
For many others, workplace systems proved more complicated than those formulas.
Understanding workplace dynamics often requires a more strategic lens.
Example from my career
One piece of advice I heard early in my career was:
“Good work always gets noticed.”
In reality, I learned that good work sometimes gets absorbed quietly into the system unless it is clearly communicated and documented.
Competence matters.
But visibility and clarity matter too.
That realization influenced how I later built the Echo and Document pillar of The SHIELD System™.
