Many careers include moments where a professional decision felt risky at the time.

Examples might include:

• speaking up in a high-stakes meeting
• challenging a decision respectfully
• pursuing a different role
• setting a boundary with leadership

These moments can be uncomfortable, but they often become turning points in professional growth.

Example from my career

One professional risk I took was pushing for clearer employee relations protocols in an organization where decisions had historically been handled informally.

It required initiating conversations that some leaders initially resisted.

But over time the clarity helped the organization reduce risk and improve decision consistency.
