Many professionals don’t notice the shift immediately.

Saying yes becomes the default.

Until:

• timelines compress
• priorities conflict
• expectations stack

At that point, the issue is not effort.

It’s capacity and clarity.

Example from my career

I’ve experienced periods where multiple high-priority requests came in simultaneously, each framed as urgent.

Without clear prioritization from leadership, everything became a priority—which meant nothing was truly prioritized.

That’s when I began pushing for clarity before committing to additional work.
